    Philippine Journal of Urology (PJU) 

    Guidelines to Contributors

    A. The Philippine Journal of Urology encourages the submission for publication of papers related to the field of Urology from the medical community in general and from the urologists in particular.  The Journal shall have two sections:  (1) Researches and Investigations, and (2) Urological Surveys.

    1. Researches and Investigations:  Original articles which include clinical or basic researches of subject matters pertinent to the practice of Urology.

    2. Urological Surveys

    a) Case reports or case series of unusual or rare urologic disease.

    b) Special articles including review articles or state-of-the-art articles important tot he urologic practitioner.

    c) Abstracts of researches presented in the Philippine Urological Association, Inc. Research Paper Contest and Free Paper sessions.

    d) Abstracts of current published articles from other medical journals, book reviews and clinico-pathologcial conferences.

    e) Lectures, essays, biographical or historical sketches or their abstracts which were delivered before any Association/Congress/College deemed important in urologic practice.

    f) Editorials and Letters to the Editor which provide an area for the rpid exchange of ideas and critical comments.

    g) Proceedings from conventions plenary sessions, symposia or workshops hld by the PUA, Inc.

    B. Manuscripts of Researches and Investigations or Urological Surveys may be submitted to:

    C. All manuscripts submitted for publication shall become the sole property of the PUA.  It is understood that htese manuscripts have never been published and that all the authors will submit a signed certification attesting to the above.  Any subsequent publication in any other journal, magazine, book or periodical will need the permission of the PUA.  The research papers submitted to the PUA Research Contest (committee) shall also become the property of the PUA, Inc. and shall be subject to the same rules and regulations governing submission, publication and reprinting in any other publication.

    D. All manuscripts submitted are subject to editorial modification to bring them into conformity with the style of the journal.  Statements made or opinions expressed by any contributor in any article are not attributable to the editorial board.  The editorial board shall not be held responsible for the loss of manuscripts through circumstances beyond its control.

    E. Manuscripts

    The manuscript should be printed on white bond paper, 8 1/2" x 11" with a 1.0" margin left and right, top and bottom.  Using double spacing throughout the paper.  The Scientific Research Paper must include the Title Page, Abstract, Text, References.  A Case Report must include the Title Page, Abstract, Introduction, Report of the Case (history, physical examination, pertinent laboratory and diagnostic procedures), Discussion, References.  Each new section shall begin in a new page and number each consecutively beginning with the title page.  The page number must be in the upper right hand corner of the page.

    1) Title Page: must contain the complete title of the research paper, the complete names of all the authors (first, middle initial and last name) with their highest academic degrees and commencing with he principal author, the corresponding official title in the section, department or division of the institution to which the author(s) belong.

    2) Abstract: must contain not more than 150 words stating the objectives of the paper, study procedures, the results and the main conclusions.  Below the abstract, provide and identify 3 to 10 key words or short phrases for cross referencing.

    3) Text: must contain the entirety of the research paper usually divided into the following sections: introduction, materials and methods, results, discussions, conclusions, acknowledgments, figures, tables, and illustrations.  Illustrations should be mounted and submitted as color or preferably black and white glossy prints no larger than 5" x 7".  Original X-rays should not be submitted but rather, in good fair size photographic color or black and white prints.  The name of the author(s) should be written in the margin on the reverse side of the illustrations and the top must be indicated.  Legend should be typed double spaced on a separate sheet of paper.  Patients must not be recognizable in any illustration unless a written consent is given.  All illustrations must be numbered and cited in the text.  Acknowledgements of persons who have contributed significantly to the study may be included but a written consent from them must be made.

    4) References: must b numbered consecutively in the order as they are cited in the text.  Examples are:

    Journals: Surname and initial of author(s), title of the article, name of the journal, year, volume, number, and inclusive pages.
