Dear PUA Members:

April is fast approaching. We shall be having our PUA Midyear Convention on April 10-12, 2008 in the beautiful city of Davao. The venue for our midyear meeting will be at the Waterfront Insular Hotel. For this year's meeting our theme is "The Battle Ground against GU Cancer: Are we ready for Stem Cell?" We shall have sessions on April 11, 2008 with Dr. Jose Dante Dator and Dr. Romula J. De Villa.

As in all our midyear conventions, we have arranged sportimg and other family activities for each and everyone. We shall have our PUA midyear - USPGA golf tournament at the Palos Verdes Golf and Country Club on April 10, 2008 at 9:00 am. We shall have a Badminton tournament at 1:00pm on April 10. Then we shall have water rafting for everyone and as usual, games for children.

The fellowship dinner for this year will be very different. The Executive Council has decided to scrap the TURP for the reason that it has become too commercialized. In lieu of the institutional presentation, the Social Committee has prepared an entertainment package for the entire family.

So please, make your arrangements early thru the secretariat because accomodations in the venue are limited.

        The Prostate Health Committee has more than extensively covered the length and breadth of our country in their efforts to bring the services of our members to those who need them most.  In the last 3 months, DREs lectures were conducted under the leadership of Dr. Alvin Cabreira.

The Committee on the Constitutional By-Laws and Amendments, headed by Dr. Alfred Uy, has submitted their recommendations for the changes in our By-Laws. The EC has approved their recommendations and will be sending a copy of the By-Laws to all the members for their perusal prior to the ratification during this Annual Convention.  The major changes are those with regards succession of officers in case of resignation, death, disability; the section regarding the proxy votes in a business meeting; the requirement of a simple majority to conduct a business meeting ( as compared to only 20 in the old By-Laws which had been pointed out by the SEC as unallowable);  and other typographical changes. The changes have been highlighted.  

          I appeal that such changes be ratified by the body. A proxy vote will accompany the cover letter in case of your absence in the convention.

          There will be a PUA –PHiSSAM Scientific symposium that will be held on October 25, 2007, Thursday at Annabel’s Restaurant, T. Morato Ave., QC. The topic would be the Endocrinology of the Aging Male and 2 noted speakers from the PHISSAM would give their insights on this condition that is becoming an issue of utmost importance to the urologists when they treat aging male patients. All are invited. This scientific activity is supported by Sanofi Aventis.

    Dr. Abraham will be presented with a Certificate of Merit  for the best paper ( of the SLS )  among the submitted  researches  in  General Surgery, Gynecology and Urologic Specialties. The distinction will be given during the Presentation of Awards for Scientific Papers and Videos on Sept 5, 2007 in San Francisco.

    Congratulations Joben! The PUA is very proud of you  and your achievement and we are sure Dr. Dave and Dra. Letty  are too!

Dr. Raul Winston Andutan is now the new Board member of the PUA Executive Council. Dr. Andutan, the 3^rd highest placed candidate for the position of Board Member in the last PUA Elections held in December, 2007, had been nominated by the PUA NOMELEC in an emergency meeting as a vacancy in the Executive Council had arisen due to the resignation of Dr. Dave Bolong as Treasurer of the Association.

In a meeting held last April 19, 2007, the PUA Executive Council accepted the nomination of Dr. Andutan from the NOMELEC. The Council also approved a resolution making Dr. Telesforo Gana the new PUA Treasurer, Dr. Benjamin Ramos as the new Auditor. Dr. Jaime Balingit remains as the other Board Member of the PUA Executive Council.

In the last PUA Elections for the position of Board Members, Drs. Ramos, Balingit and Andutan garnered the highest 3 places respectively.
